Believing Tommy betrayed Freddy, Ada doesn't want to see or talk to the Shelby family.  Arthur Shelby Sr., who left the Shelby family a decade ago.  (Tommy Flanagan) returns to town.  Tommy wants nothing to do with him, but Arthur believes he has changed.  He offers Arthur Sr. a lot of money to build hotels in the United States, only for Arthur Sr. to run away.  An IRA member starts asking about the man who killed Grace.  Tommy and Grace kill other IRA members.  Grace, now in love with Tommy, tells Detective Campbell that if she tells him where the guns are, he must leave Tommy and the Shelby family alone.  After learning that Danny isn't really dead, she suspects the guns were buried in a fake grave.  Grace resigns from service to the Crown, giving the position to Inspector Campbell.  Inspector Campbell proposes marriage, which Grace declines.  Tommy and Grace consummate their affair, secretly witnessed by Inspector Campbell.  Arthur attempts to kill himself by hanging himself, but survives when the rope slips from its hook.
