Stranger Things Season 02 episode 4

The twelfth and fourth episode of the second season of Stranger Things is titled "Will the Wise." Shawn Levy directed the episode, which debuted on October 27, 2017, together with the remainder of season two. Will, who is unwell, confides in Joyce, with unsettling outcomes. As Hopper searches for the truth, Eleven makes an unexpected finding.

Will Byers is found immobile by Mike Wheeler, Dustin Henderson, Max Mayfield, and Lucas Sinclair outside Hawkins Middle while the shadow monster's tendrils take root inside of him. His mother tries to rouse him up, but she can't wake him up until the monster has finished injecting its material into him. The lads see that Max's episodes are becoming more regular as Joyce takes him away, but they won't tell Max the truth about them. Will is unable to recall what transpired during his incident at home. He sobs and says he doesn't know what the shadow monster wants when she shows him his picture of it. He characterises it as more of a feeling. Joyce swears she will shield him from it.

When Eleven gets back to the cabin, Jim Hopper is waiting in front, furious. He berates her for being noticed and putting their security at risk. Hopper tries to remove the TV from her and grounds her for a week, but she uses her skills to keep it in place. In the end, he completely removes the TV cables. Hopper yells at her to mature as she locks herself in her room and mentally destroys the cabin after she violently compares him to Martin Brenner. When Jonathan Byers gets home, his brother and mother are sound sleeping in Will's bed. Will closes his eyes and goes to sleep, leaving them alone. Nancy Wheeler meets Jonathan after concocting a false justification to spend the day unattended.

Joyce tries to reach Hopper by calling the Hawkins police, but is unable to do so. After taking Will's temperature, she discovers that he is a few degrees below normal. When Dustin gets to school, he finds that his pals are still hunting for the monster, so he continues to feed and hide the growing d'Artagnan. Will exhibits obvious signs of anxiety at Joyce's hot bath; the back of his neck swells and he starts to see images of Upside Down tunnels while Scott Clarke offers a lesson on the biological state of fear shared by all creatures. In response to Joyce's confused insistence that they must increase his body temperature, Will says, "He likes it cold." Instead of telling Eleven he's sorry, Hopper tells her to clean.

While they are playing basketball, Billy Hargrove insults Steve Harrington once more, telling him that his issue is that he is not putting his feet down after being knocked down. Billy and Tommy H mock him smugly in the shower about Nancy and Jonathan's previous day's absence from school. Nancy hears a man muttering to himself in the park while she waits to see Mrs. Holland. They leave the park after realising there are more people observing them, but a stranger stops them at their car and asks them to follow him. When Hopper gets to the house, Will is only wearing his briefs and it's chilly outside. Will explains the visions he is seeing and verifies that the "he" he mentioned is the shadow monster.

After calling the Byers' residence without getting a response, Mike tells Lucas and Dustin about Will's Halloween experience. After exchanging speculations about what might be going on between him and the shadow monster, they decide to part ways, with Mike going to check on Will at his place while Lucas and Dustin carry on their search for Dart. When Eleven is tidying up the cabin, she discovers other boxes beneath the floorboards and takes out the "HAWKINS LAB" box. Sam Owens leads Nancy and Jonathan around the lab while maintaining that the people in charge of the faults the lab made have left. He shows them the burning gate when he leads them to the basement, telling them that while they can't completely destroy it, they can stop its spread.

When Mike gets to the Byers' house, he informs Joyce that he has heard about the shadow monster. When Dustin gets home, his mother is still searching for their cat. He discovers that Dart's tank's glass is broken and that something that looks like shed skin is still within. He finds a larger Dart chowing down on his deceased cat by following a trail of blood. It swivels around to scream at him, its head gaping open like a demogorgon's. Hopper excavates a pumpkin crop that has been contaminated till he comes to grey, organic material. He nibbles at it until it pulls back to reveal a hole. He descends into it and finds himself in a lengthy, dimly lit tunnel.
