The third episode of Stranger Things' fourth season and the show's twenty-eighth overall is titled "The Monster and the Superhero." First showing was on May 27, 2022.When El travels to Alaska with Murray and Joyce, there are dire repercussions. Nancy and Robin uncover the truth about Hawkins' demons. Dr. Owens offers the grim news.

Sam Owens, who lost his job as a result of the events of 1985, receives a visit from Jack Sullivan at his Ruth, Nevada, home. Sullivan describes the situation while displaying to Owens pictures of Chrissy Cunningham's corpse. Sullivan expresses his opinion that Eleven, who Owens maintains is dead, has turned evil and is experimenting with using her abilities to kill people in Hawkins remotely. When Owens declines to provide information, Sullivan departs and gives his men the directive to locate Eleven through any contacts Owens may have. After Eleven hurts Angela, Jonathan Byers and Argyle—who are both obviously high—drive Eleven, Mike Wheeler, and Will Byers away from the roller rink. When they get back, Murray Bauman is preparing their meal, and Joyce Byers says she has to leave.

When Lucas Sinclair awakens at Benny's Burgers, Andy, Patrick McKinney, and Jason Carver are outside getting ready to go after Eddie Munson. Lucas says he's alright, but Jason gives him permission to leave if he doesn't feel like it. Eddie is still holed up in Rick Lipton's boathouse when Steve Harrington, Dustin Henderson, Max Mayfield, and Robin Buckley pay him a visit and let him know that the police are looking for him even though his identity hasn't been made public. Eddie notes that Dustin's plot to kill Vecna in order to establish Eddie's innocence seems like an impossibility. Outside, they see the police speed by. Nancy Wheeler is being questioned by the police about when she last saw Fred Benson in light of the discovery of his body. 

Steve and Dustin wait outside, and Dustin remarks on how excited he seemed to be to go with Nancy, to which the latter responds, "Be quiet." Max is approached by Ms. Kelley to discuss Billy Hargrove's passing, but she is more interested in talking to her about Chrissy. Max requests to use the loo as a pretext to take Chrissy's school keys as Ms Kelley won't infringe on her privacy. Lucas contacts Dustin on his radio as he slips into his bedroom through a window as Jason, Patrick, and Andy explore the outside of Dustin's residence. Dustin tells Max where Eddie is, not knowing who he is with, and Max instructs him to meet them at the school, but Lucas gets cut off.

While Max and Steve are busy breaking into the school, Robin phones Dustin with her information. Max discovers that Ms. Kelley was seeing Chrissy as well as Fred, and that they were both experiencing nightmares, nosebleeds, and headaches. She hears Vecna beckoning to her just as she realises these fit with her recent actions. A grandfather clock set onto the wall is seen as she walks out into the corridor. When Vecna cries her name once more, his eyes open in the Upside Down.
