Eleven and Mike Wheeler have a private moment during which they almost kiss. Eleven is asked to look for Will and Barb, but she is too weak to do it because of her previous achievements. They break into the middle school and construct a sensory-deprivation tank in order to increase Eleven's abilities. Eleven discovers Barb's body with what appears to be a slug emerging from her lips. Joyce helps her locate Will, who is still alive, hidden in his backyard fort, "Castle Byers," in the Upside Down. After breaking into Hawkins Laboratory, Hopper and Joyce are caught by security personnel. Jonathan and Nancy decide to kill the monster and rob the police station of their hunting supplies. The creature in the Upside Down bursts inside Will's hidden fort.
